Get Right Inside Your Comfort Zone

It’s been over three weeks since my last post and I would like to say that I’ve been making big plans and I have a whole line up ready to go… but that would be false.

Sometimes in life we need to take a step back from what we’re doing, look at what we’ve accomplished and think about where we want to go… but I didn’t do that either.

We also need to just shut off from the world and relax, take a break from everything to clear our minds and renew ourselves so that we’re ready to dig right back in when we get back to everything… except I’ve been working just the same as before, so that hasn’t happened.

Did I just waste three weeks of my life?

Maybe.

Does that actually matter?

Nope.

Whenever I read other productivity or self improvement blogs, they have this very strong message that you must always be doing something. Even the good ones that encourage taking breaks and time to relax, fitting those into your schedule, you’re still actively getting those things done! There must always be a goal, a target to fulfil. Better work life balance, being more present, better focus.

Sometimes… sometimes you should just live. Just let go and let life happen. Do what you want, when you want, for however long you want. Life is full of rules, guidelines and limitations on what we can do, and we learn to manage with that, but when you’re always pushing the boundaries and then recovering from that, you’re often also increasing your anxiety.

We worry we didn’t do enough, or try enough, or even RELAX enough.

That’s a lot of pressure to carry around all the time.

So I rebelled and just stopped. I did what I wanted with no goals (except during work of course) and just let my life be what it is. And I didn’t do it because I should, to learn some deep life lesson, I did it because I just couldn’t be bothered to do anything else for a while.

And that’s okay.

So try it, find your comfort zone and sit right in the middle of it for a while, it’s not as big a problem as we all think!

I’d love to hear some other thoughts on this, people who have or haven’t tried it and whether they agree or disagree with the idea. Please leave a comment below or shoot me a message.

See ya,

Iain
