One of the hardest things to do when you’ve been productive for a long time is to take a proper break. In this case, I don’t mean the things we do for a break, such as watching shows on Netflix, playing video games, going out or even reading. I mean a real break of doing nothing.
Today is Christmas day and I found myself early on in the day testing myself on Khan Academy and DataCamp, then updating my emails and checking out my finances, all before lunch.
Eventually my wife got the message across to me that on Christmas day, you really shouldn’t be worrying about your development and progress in all the areas of your life, all I should be doing is helping get lunch ready and relaxing!
So that’s what happened for the rest of the day, we watched Home Alone, Die Hard, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and Drop Dead Fred, then played a few rounds of the Exploding Kittens card game. Then we just talked about things in general, future plans we’d discussed before, simple stuff.
We should all give ourselves more days like that, not just on Christmas day.
